A grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation has enabled us to purchase a glider for our Toronto Chapter of Freedoms Wings Canada. Based at York Soaring just outside of Toronto, this will be the first of four gliders dedicated to the Freedoms Wings Canada program. It is currently being adapted with hand controls to make it Canada’s first fully accessible glider.
Our Toronto chapter at York Soaring has recently upgraded its washrooms to fully accessible standards through a grant from WestJet and many of the costs for Inspirational Flights and Youth Flight Canada Soaring Bursaries have been covered by the support of TD Securities and Research Capital.
WestJet is also a generous supporter of the Canadian Junior Soaring Team which trains young glider pilots for provincial, national and shortly, world-class youth gliding competitions. This team is administered by the Southern Ontario Soaring Association; the premiere cross country and competition glider club in Eastern Canada.
